Get set for camping at the Royal Bath & West Show

The Royal Bath & West Show now has a campsite, capable of taking up to 100 tents and caravans, which means you can stay and enjoy the new festival feel and evening entertainment. So for those who are camping out, we’ve pulled together some top tips from Nikki Nichol from the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

First on her list is a corkscrew! “A corkscrew and a spare corkscrew – you don’t want to get caught out,” she laughs. Kitchen utensils are next on the list in the form of a tin opener and tea towels – they make anti-rattle aids and padding for breakable items, followed by a spirit level if caravanning. “A torch, a head torch is good, especially for filling water, emptying the toilet or changing gas cylinder in the dark.”

As all good boy scouts or girl guides know, the motto is to be prepared. “Bring an umbrella, sunglasses and sunscreen. Possibly for use on the same day.” Plastic bags are also a good idea, she adds. “For shopping, rubbish, muddy boots, or head covering on the way to the toilet block because you haven’t brought an umbrella.”

Charger(s) and/or spare batteries for phones/cameras and other portable devices are essential; how else are you going to share #MakingMemories at the Bath & West Show on social media?

Panel: Don’t forget

  • Bring the essentials but pack as light as possible
  • A tent that won’t leak – and peg it down well
  • Sleeping bag, pillow and earplugs
  • A can-do attitude, whatever the weather
  • Baby wipes for those sticky ice cream moments
  • Camping chair – to settle down on after a busy day of entertainment
  • Cooler and bottle opener – although there are lots of places to eat and drink
  • Reusable water bottles for the water filling stations
  • Eye mask – unless you like waking up at the crack of dawn
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Wellies – whether for welly wanging games or wet weather
  • Microfibre towel – there are showers on site
  • Dry shampoo, what did we do without it?

Check the area when packing up, don’t leave anything behind
